Abstract: The Canadian Pre-hospital Acuity Scale (CPAS): What is it and How does it help? | 25 May 2011

The pre-hospital triage of patients and return patient priorities (eg. “Red, Amber and Green”) are inconsistent from one jurisdiction to another across Canada. CPAS has the potential to standardize pre-hospital triage and return patient priorities using an established and validated framework (CTAS).

What will we be discussing?
– A brief history of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS)
– The rationale and process for the development of CPAS
– Case studies using CPAS and real time CPAS calculation using an ePCR system
– Discussion of the future benefits and challenges associated with the national implementation of CPAS
