A devastating earthquake in September 2010 and followed by a severe aftershock in February 2011 caused widespread damage in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest city. The St. John Ambulance service, is the country’s emergency services provider and had sixteen ambulances operational within half an hour after the earthquake and received almost 700 calls within the first six hours.
