PCC Advocacy Plan: Bringing Paramedicine’s Priorities to the National Stage

PCC Members,

The PCC is strengthening its federal advocacy efforts to ensure the voice and expertise of paramedics are heard in national health, public safety, emergency preparedness, and health-system discussions.

Over the coming year, the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada will engage federal decision-makers on the issues that matter to our members, our profession, and the patients and communities we serve.

Two key priorities

Our federal advocacy will centre on two primary recommendations:

  1. Establish a national frontline emergency health roundtable series

PCC is advocating for a national forum that brings together frontline emergency health providers—including paramedics, to strengthen federal health policy, emergency preparedness, and evidence-informed decision-making.

The proposed roundtable series would create an opportunity for federal decision-makers to hear directly from Paramedic leaders about the operational realities they experience, including workforce sustainability, violence, mental health and wellness, and the pressures facing emergency health systems.

  1. Strengthen health-system capacity and emergency response

The PCC is also advocating for investments and solutions that improve integrated care, patient flow, and health-system capacity while helping reduce ambulance offload delays.

This work will include advancing practical approaches to integrated care and patient flow and exploring opportunities to improve the data and coordination needed to address offload delays and broader pressures on frontline emergency health systems.

Building relationships across government

Throughout the fall and into 2027, PCC will continue building relationships with federal departments, ministerial offices, agencies, and parliamentary committees.

Our outreach will focus on Health Canada, Public Safety Canada, Finance Canada, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Treasury Board, and relevant House and Senate committees.

These conversations will also provide opportunities to advance related priorities, including:

  • First responder mental health and wellness
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Violence against paramedics and first responder safety
  • Health-system resilience and coordination
  • Workforce sustainability
  • Patient flow and ambulance offload delays

A key milestone in the advocacy plan will be PCC’s federal lobby day February 25th, 2027.

The PCC Board and stakeholders will meet with priority federal decision-makers to present our recommendations, share operational expertise, build relationships, and seek opportunities for continued collaboration. The lobby day will be anchored by PCC’s federal pre-budget submission and supporting issue briefs. https://www.paramedicchiefs.ca/public/pcc-finance-canada-2026-pre-budget-submission/

What this means for members

Advocacy is most effective when it is grounded in the experience and expertise of our members.

As these initiatives move forward, PCC will keep members informed about opportunities to contribute, share experiences, participate in advocacy activities, and help demonstrate the impact of national health-system and public safety challenges on paramedics and the communities we serve.

Stay tuned for further updates and opportunities to get involved.
