Gerry started his EMS career in 1979 with Ray’s Ambulance Service in Saskatoon. In 1980 he headed north to Prince Albert to work three years at Parkland Ambulance Care. It is here that he obtained his EMT certification in 1980.
In 1983 he returned to Saskatoon to work for Michael & David Dutchak at M.D. Ambulance. During his career here he has had the role of supervisor, educator, public relations coordinator, director of operations and is currently the chief operating officer and chief of EMS for M.D. Ambulance.
Gerry has had an impact to Saskatoon prehospital care by developing paramedics for the industrial sector, the tactical team and community paramedicine.
He has volunteered his time on many boards and is the current past president for the Saskatchewan EMS Association (SEMSA). Gerry attended two major world disasters to help bring relief to the areas affected, in 1988 for the Armenian Earthquake and the 2005 tsunami in Bande Achi, Indonesia.
Gerry is a licensed advanced care paramedic and has a certificate in health care administration specializing in EMS from the College of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan.
Gerry has received many awards and honors. He has received the Governor Generals Exemplary Service Medal with first bar, the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal and the Saskatchewan Millennium Medal.
Gerry is married with 4 children, 5 grandchildren. 2 children are working in the field for him as advanced care paramedics and 1 is a primary care paramedic working in the finance section of M.D. Ambulance.
