Research 101 |
You are invited to participate in the pilot offering of a new “Research 101” course for a research project being led by Dr. Michelle McCarron (Saskatchewan Health Authority) and Dr. R. Nicholas Carleton (University of Regina). This course is being offered through the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) and has been funded through a research grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). This course is designed for individuals in leadership positions within Public Safety organizations in Canada. The purpose of the course is to equip Public Safety leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and critically evaluate research. Examples of when such skills may be useful are when one is approached with a proposal to participate in a research project or if one wishes to evaluate the evidence supporting a mental health program prior to adopting it for one’s organization. The next course will be launched in May 2024 and consists of eight modules, which are offered over the span of two weeks. In total, the course will take approximately 8 hours to complete. Within that timeframe, however, participants may work through the modules at their own pace, and they do not need to be completed all in one sitting. If you are interested in participating in this project, or have any questions about the research project itself, please contact the Principal Investigator, Dr. Michelle McCarron, at Michelle.McCarron@saskhealthauthority.ca by April 26, 2024. Participants will receive an email in order to complete the course registration process. You will then receive an email approximately one week prior to the course start date with a link to a pre-course survey and another email with a link to the post-course survey upon completion. All participants are asked to complete both surveys and will have the option to enter their contact information in a separate online form (to keep survey responses anonymous) in order to receive a $25 Amazon e-gift card as a thank-you for participating. Participants will also be invited to participate in an optional interview following completion of the course in order to share additional feedback. It is anticipated that the full interview will take approximately 60 minutes and interview participants will receive a $50 Amazon e-gift card as a thank-you for their time. |
